Choa Chu Kang Community Green Tour

A community green tour was successfully organised for the residents from Choa Chu Kang at the end of May 2010. This event marked the long time collaboration between Alpha Biofuels and Choa Chu Kang district for the ‘Cash for Oil’ programme. As a result of all of the residents’ and volunteers’ support, we are now steps closer to building a more socially aware and environmentally-conscious community.

Mr Allan Lim brought the residents around our biodiesel plant. Amongst those who were braving the stench to watch how dirty sludge was converted into clean fuel, was Minister of Manpower, Mr Gan Kim Yong! And yes, this is a one-in-a-lifetime experience that they could see how waste is recycled, and how biodiesel actually works and benefits the community.

We also had the opportunity to take a morning walk with the group at Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve, where we got to observe nature and wildlife. Although all of us, young and old, endured the itch from the mosquito bites, we appreciated how important it is for all of us to preserve our environment and resources.

The last segment of the programme comprised a visit to Gardenasia, a countryside getaway tucked away from the busy city. We were greeted by the good food and friendly staff who took us around their green spaces. The place, beautifully adorned with greenery, bali-styled structures was nothing like a traditional or backward farm that people would think of.  The event ended with a soap making workshop conducted by Alpha Biofuels, which left each of the participants with hand-made tokens to bring home.
